Panama is best known for its namesake canal which was built by the U.S. in the early 20th century. It was owned and operated by America until it was completely given to Panama in 1999. Consequently, Panama City is a major hub for international trade and finances and boasts hundreds of skyscrapers. However, Panama is a country of demographic and economic contrasts. It has one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America and dedicates substantial funding to social programs, yet poverty and inequality remain prevalent.
Filter of Hope works alongside our Panamanian pastors and church members. Panama’s religious climate has a great variety of influences. Some of the indigenous people we reach have relocated from the Darien, the dense jungle that borders Colombia. The local church works with Cerbin Vargas to supply guides to the community.
No one should have to live without clean drinking water. Everyone deserves an opportunity to know Christ personally. On this trip you will help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ using a water filter that helps people get clean drinking water. Meeting two essential needs for life.
